First you install VMWare Player. Then you go download an iso file for CentOs at: https://tecadmin.net/download-centos-7/ by clicking on the "CentOS-7-x86_64-DVD-1908.iso [4.3G]" link and selecting one of the download options. Then you have to open that iso file in VMWare Player and it will walk you through setting up a Linux Virtual Machine. You might want to increase some of the default values for memory or RAM. Also, during set up you want to make sure you choose to install gnome -- this is the desktop environment, so your VM has a graphical interface instead of just a terminal. Once that is all done you should be able to open it up and it will run a Linux machine, which should actually look a little bit like a mix between a Windows and Mac (start bar on the bottom to show open windows, but a control menu up top to access applications and such). After you have your working VM, then you'll need to download and install the CAVE installer for Linux. You can find this on our website. There should be instructions for that. If you have trouble, I can help, because it might miss a few dependent packages but those aren't hard to add in. Those should be the basics steps for setting up the VM with Cave in it. Let me know how it goes if you'd like. --Shay Carter Software Engineer II UCAR - Unidata Ticket Details =================== Ticket ID: AEJ-967615 Department: Support AWIPS Priority: High Status: Open =================== NOTE: All email exchanges with Unidata User Support are recorded in the Unidata inquiry tracking system and then made publicly available through the web.
